Madison-based contemporary folk artist Tracy Jane Comer has again been named FINALIST by the VH1's Song of the Year songwriting contest in the Folk category. Song of the Year is an international songwriting contest supporting VH-1’s Save the Music Foundation. Tracy was recognized this time for her song “In This New Year (Instruments of Peace).”

Tracy was also honored three previous times by Song of the Year in the Folk category for her songs “A Father’s Lament (Clementime)” (co-written with Madison songwriter Arvid Berge) and “The Heart Remembers,” both from her debut album Second Wind, and for “This Losing Game (Goodnight Moon)" from her latest release, Quietly There.

Tracy also had an instrumental composition (guitar and hammered dulcimer), "Movin' in the Right Direction," aired on MTV’s reality show "Made."

A full-time musician, Tracy tours mostly in the Midwest and southeast and some areas beyond. She recently opened several tour shows for Willy Porter and has also opened shows for notables such as The Wailin’ Jennys, Peter Mulvey, LJ Booth, Cathy Barton, Mary McCaslin and Ed Trickett. She performed over 70 shows in 2005 promoting her latest release, Quietly There, which was nominated for BEST ACOUSTIC ALBUM by the Madison Area Music Awards. Tracy also received nominations in 2004 for BEST ACOUSTIC ARTIST and BEST ACOUSTIC ALBUM for her debut album, Second Wind. Tracy’s songwriting has been said to be “reminiscent of classic balladeers like Joan Baez, complete with lyrics that combines social consciousness with personal issues.” (The Onion, January 2006)
