NEWS
FROM TRACY
8/1/2008:OUCH....I injured my back this morning, and after trip to urgent care (thanks for the ride, Darlene!) I am on bedrest for a few days. So sadly, my shows with Randy and Michael tonight/tomorrow had to be canceled. But the shows will go on...Amy Curl & Dan Kennedy will play in our place 8/1/2008 and Small Potatoes will play both sets on 8/2/2008. Read full story at my blog...
7/15/2008: New blog posted concerning my upcoming shows, which will be the last for a while as I am going to be taking a long break from performing.
Read more on my blog...
7/6/2008: 3 IS A MAGIC NUMBER! Read this article on by BLOG...I talk about my current collaborations and upcoming shows.
6/20/2008: TABLATURE! OK, you guitar enthusiasts, I have finally posted the first full tablature file of one of my pieces. I started with Movin' in the Right Direction since that is the one I have had the most requests for. Others will follow, starting with more instrumental works. Let me know if you have a special request for any song's tab and I'll put it in the queue. CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD TAB FOR MOVIN' IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION The song itself can be downloaded or purchased on CD from any number of places...iTunes, Broadjam, and CDBaby to name a few. See the MUSIC page for more. (NOTE: This piece requires both a full capo and a partial (Esus) capo...otherwise the tab will make no sense.)
6/4/2008: For those of you who are musicians yourself...I have posted a mixed bag of scores and chord charts for some of my songs. See the LYRICS page for the link. Later this year I plan to publish guitar tablature for my instrumental pieces plus some vocal tunes as well.
5/11/2008 MAMAs AWARD:I was named INSTRUMENTALIST OF THE YEAR last night at the 2008 Madison Area Music Awards![See some pics on the photos page!] The entry was based on my acoustic guitar work. Also, my manager/producer Randy Green won Folk/Americana Song of the Year for his song "Home Movies," recorded by Robert J., who was the biggest winner in this year's MAMAs with 6 awards. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees, and my heartfelt thanks to those of you who participated in the voting!
4/1/2008: No foolin'...I am proud to announce that I'm a nominee in this year's Madison Area Music Award (MAMAs) for BEST INSTRUMENTALIST! The next round of voting will begin any minute now and go until early May...your support would be very much appreciated. Also nominated is my manager/duo partner/cowriter and pal Randy Green - nominated for BEST RECORDING STUDIO. And, one of Randy's songs, "Home Movies, recorded this year by Robert J, is nominated under
BEST FOLK-AMERICANA SONG.
Voting is open to the public...it costs $5 to vote (done online) but the proceeds of this program benefit school music programs. In particular, the money raised helps to purchase instruments for school children and for after-school programs such as those run by the Boys and Girls Club. See these links to participate: Broadjam (where you sign up to vote) MAMAs site
NOTE: When you vote on the Broadjam site you'll have the chance to click and listen to music so please take time to sample the Madison music scene! In addition to raising money for school music progrlams, that's what this is all about. It's easy to get swept up in the competition and all that, but the bottom line is that this is a chance for musicians and listeners to really get to know our local music scene. There are many wonderful musicians nominated in many categories, several that I have had the pleasure to work with, including the Mud Angels (blues song), Laura England (female vocalist), Ben Johnston-Urey (classical song, classical album), Robert J (a number of nominations), Subvocal (unique song, unique Artist), Christine Costanzo (folk/Americana artist), Tret Fure (folk/Americana album),...and many others, so please use this opportunity to check them out, and vote for what you like best!
3/26/2008: I have a track on a new compilation CD put out by Indie Music for Life, an organization whose mission is "Fighting cancer one song at a time with the support of independent singer songwriters worldwide."The CD is the 2008 Indie Music For Life compilation CD and you'll find it at this link: http://www.indiemusicforlife.org/shop.html It is a double disc set that features 37 artists/songs from around the world

In addition to purchasing products you can also make donations through their site.
2/18/2008: I've been taking some time off this winter...and most of it seems to have been shoveling snow! What a winter. I do have some shows coming up in March and several in April and beyond. I am working on some new instrumental tunes and hope to put together a compilation of them in some form later this year (digital release and/or CD),
and may have print music available
soon for some of my vocal and instrumental tunes. MAMAs: The Madison Area Music Awards will be in May. This annual event is a fundraiser that aims to raise money to buy instruments for school music programs. I am in the running for BEST INSTRUMENTALIST this year, with two guitar compositions, and my producer's studio (Randy's Recording) is entered under BEST RECORDING STUDIO. Registering to vote costs $5 and that fee supports the school music project; see http://www.themamas.org/ for details or to participate.
7/28/2007: I have some more fun shows upcoming in August for those of you in the Madison area. I still have a standing duo act with Randy Green and with my trio and sometimes full band, but also have a few new collaborations
including some duo performances with Michael Bryant (of Sticky
Fingers) and another duo collaboration with Dave Schindele. And, a new trio has formed, called Likely Stories, that includes myself plus Dave Schindele and Nancy
Rost. We have performed once and have another show upcoming, and are in the studio working on a collaborative CD! PREVIEW: You can hear three of Dave's
fine songs with my cello added, in rough mix form, on Dave's web site -- songs are This Ground, Nicole, and These Strings. More news to follow about this fun group!
4/2/2007: Some audio and photos are now posted at 3ofCups.info from a show in Minnesota with this very exciting collaborative effort with Rachel
Nelson, Michael Kiley, and special guest Tret Fure. Check it out! See also the MUSIC
page for a new live MP3 and new featured video.
3/28/2007:Madison Area Music Awards: I am a finalist in the Madison Area
Music Awards for BEST
FOLK/AMERICANA ARTIST, and Randy's Recording (where I do my recording) is a finalist for BEST RECORDING STUDIO. This annual awards program benefits music in the public schools. Voting in the next round opens April 1 and you find information about how to register and vote
(and support the cause!) at the MAMAs
web site.
3/2/2007:New featured (free) MP3 has been posted! See the MUSIC page.
I am mostly on "break" from performing at the moment, but I do have a couple of things on the calendar including another show with Midwest musician Joe Jencks...check the PERFORMANCES page for details. Some of you have asked what I'm up to....Well, a number of things. I am working on some new writing here and there, specifically some instrumental guitar compositions. Also I'm enjoying playing, just for fun or for occasional gigs, with some side projects, old and new, in various styles of music. I'm also playing piano for a local civic theater's production of "Camelot" and sitting in for a time with the band at my church for their contemporary service. I'm taking some drum lessons from,
ahem, the world's best drummer (Rock Williams, formerly of Slave Raider) and learning to play some electric bass also. And still working on my violin. And, though only loosely related...I'm also taking bellydancing and having a ball! Can we say...."UNFOCUSED?" As I have been saying for quite some time....Life's too short to be just one person!!!!
1/26/2007: I am part of an exciting new project called 3 of Cups, which is a collaborative with singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist RACHEL NELSON and
percussionist Michael "Stix" Kiley. We have our first
public shows next weekend, in Minnesota, and those shows will also include special guest TRET FURE -- see the Performances page for details or see www.3ofcups.info. More to come!
1/17/2007 - Several items...
Re: Shows: For your Wisconsin folks, there have been some last-minute changes in shows -- namely a couple of shows I have postponed for a while -- so if you are planning to attend a performance, please check the Performances page. I do keep that fairly
up-to-the-minute, so when in doubt that's the best place to check. I may not have been able to catch all of the papers etc. so some shows may still show up in area listings. Apologies for any inconvenience! Performing break: I am going to be taking a much needed break from performing for a while starting in about mid-February, though I will still do some informal performances now and then and guest appearances and some work with side projects. Thanks to all of my fans/friends for the support you have shown in coming out to shows! I plan to use a lot of the newfound "free" time to work on new writing and other musical projects. Other news:I was commissioned recently to write a guitar instrumental as a theme song for the Alaska Podshow and had a great time doing that, after a very inspiring though brief visit to Alaska last summer (via cruise ship). You can hear the new song at my Broadjam site -- it is called "Inside Passage."
12/14/2006: New MP3 now posted...Happy holidays! (See the MUSIC page.) I have a few shows between now and end of February and then wil be taking a break from performing for a while to work on new material and other projects. I hope
to see you at one of my winter shows!

I'm enjoying my time
down in NC and the real fun is about to
begin! The cellist who will be joining me
for shows on tomorrow and Saturday, Leslie
Alperin, is phenomenal and I'm so excited
to have the chance to play with her! And
I'm very anxious to hear my pal Keith Howard
play again (opening act). The show in Wilmington
(my birth city) on 9/15 will be very special
to me, and I have a great bass player joining
me for the show in Clayton on
9/16. Looking ahead: With
all the fun I'm having now it's hard to
think about life after this, but yet more
exciting things are coming up soon. I'm
very happy to announce that I will be opening
two great concerts in Madison in October,
for
Ellis Paul
(Oct. 22) and for Holly
Near
(Oct. 29). See the Performances page
for details!
8/18/2006:Another update to NC
plans -- the fabulous
bass player Darrin Stephens
(of The
Revelers)
will join me for my show on my Sept. 16 show in Clayton!
I'm lucky to be able to snag him on a night
when he doesn't have a gig with his band.
They are a wonderful new group that is quickly
gaining notice, so all you NC folks,
check out their site and get to a show when
you can.

7/1/2006:Happy Fourth of July!
Randy and I enjoyed playing a short outdoor
set at Latte Da Espresso, just before hearing
that the fireworks were postponed. The rain
held out long enough for us to pack up,
thankfully! AND... SPECIAL
THANKS to all of you wonderful folks
who came out to Madison's THE
BRINK LOUNGEto see my full band show on Friday June
30! The
venue said it was one of the best turnouts
so far and we had a blast! What a beautiful
place, AND a great audience to boot. A magical
evening all the way around. Rock Williams
did the most amazing drum solo I've ever
heard/seen (amazing polyrhythms, in "Just
One Person"), and Steve Kasprzak offered
a fantastic bass solo as well (during Laura
Nyro's "Stoned Soul Picnic").
We'll be back at that venue for a series
of shows starting in October, after I'm
back from my touring.
6/12/2006:
I'm having a great time working with my
band again! Some of the excellent musicians
who contributed parts on my last album are
now joining me for some live shows in the
Madison area. We convened last year for
the television concert on Urban Theater
and are excited to be planning more events
now. I'm honored to work with Steve Kasprzak
on upright bass, Rock Wiliams on drums/percussion,
and of course Randy Green on keys and guitar.
We have some gigs lined up over the next
few months, including our first public Madison
appearance set for June 30 at Madison's
great new venue, The Brink Lounge. See the
GIGS
page for details!
5/31/2006: Tracy
on AMERICAN IDOL?? Well, How about American
Idol Underground,
a website counterpart? My songs "Yellow
Bike" and "Movin' in the
Right Direction" have both been
appearing in the TOP TEN lists in
the Folk category this spring! My music
has also been appearing on various TOP
TEN charts on the popular music site
BROADJAM.COM in
the last few months - charts for Folk, Alternative
Folk, Contemporary Folk, Region-Wisconsin,
Region-Midwest, Production-Instrumental,
and more. "Movin' in the Right Direction,"
one of my instrumental tunes, has been particularly
popular there. And, a number of podcasts
have picked up tunes of mine lately. Thanks
for all the listener support that has made
these things happen!
5/27/2006:
Happy Memorial Day weekend...please take
time to remember those who have made the
ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

More on UNICYCLES -
read 4/25 entry (below) first: Well as luck
(??) would have it, I had to extend my stay
in San Diego until Monday after coming down
with bronchitis and a touch of pneumonia
early this week (started about the
same time the tire blew out and came on
very quickly). The doctor I saw here on
Thursday said I shouldn't travel yet, so
I changed my flight to stay a few more days.
I'm starting to feel a little better now
and looking forward to getting home on Monday.
But, the upshot is that there was time then
to get the tire fixed, and today I was finally
feeling well enough to venture outside for
a short time with the one-wheeler. VOILA!
I now have proof in form of both still
shots and video that I can STILL ride a
unicycle, more than 30 years later. Some
stills are now posted on the PHOTOS
page and I'll get some video up soon too!
OK, now, I'm pooped and can go back to resting
and recuperating.
4/25/2006:
RE: UNICYCLES...Some
of you may know my song "Yellow Bike,"
which is a story song (yes, all true), set
in the "where?" town of Kure Beach,
NC when I was 10-11 years old. What I don't
say in the song is that SOME of that time,
what I was riding was a UNICYCLE. If you're
interested, I just posted a blog about
this on MySpace -Click
here, see entry dated 4/25/2006!
I was hoping to be posting some photos and
video after this week...but my plans may
now be thwarted....see the blog for more!

4/12/2006:Three of my songs were recently awarded

"Bring Me Your Peace." See www.Peacedriven.com

8/14/2007: Review of August 11 show posted on www.wibands.com
...Tracy played this show as a duo with her Sticky Fingers bandmate, Michael Bryant. Tracy really amazed me. What an incredible voice. Singing beautiful accoustic covers & originals, Tracy grabs your attention with her lovely folk vocal style that almost covers up the fact that she is playing so many different instruments. "Yawl" get ready for this list: Tracy not only sings but plays guitar, cello, fiddle, keyboards, and
of coarse the always popular hammered dulcimer!!..."Lucky" said that "Tracy is North Carolina's gift to Madison" and he is right. We are all lucky to have an artist so talented in our state like TRACY JANE COMER." [full review/more...]
Review Sept. 2006: "Quietly There" by Jim Bohn "Classy,
sophisticated,
exceptional, and beautiful. Tracy
Jane fits in the class of exceptional artists like Joni Mitchell, Judy
Collins and even Joan Baez. This is heartfelt poetry with all the soul,
sweetness and pathos that only a true artist can bring. The combination
of expert guitar work and vocals on "Yellow Bike" are nothing short of
amazing (I've seen her do this song live, and it is a remarkable thing
to watch.) Her haunting, beautiful voice leaves the impression that she
has taken a long journey, and returned to tell wonderful tales. Tracy
Jane Comer is a top shelf performer."
5/31/2006:
Three songs received Honorable Mentions
from the Peace
Driven Songwriting Contest Their
comments on each song: "'Bring Me Your Peace' has a soothing melody that brings the listener to
a calm state of mind. Songs should move people, and this song has the
gift to do just that. There is a strong connection vocally and lyrically in 'This Losing Game
(Goodnight Moon).' The song has a
nice melody with beautiful key changes and an intriguing story is told throughout. Nice
job! 'In
This New Year (Instruments of Peace)' has a great message that
challenges us to be the change we wish to see in the world. It has
honest lyrics and a powerful, yet graceful delivery."

New Review of Quietly
There
CD by SongsAlive! "What
a delight to kick back and listen to these
14 beautifully produced and compelling tracks,
that ebb and flow from fast to slow...Tracy
Jane's voice is as diverse on each track
as the story told....The title track, "Quietly
There", is "so ready for radio"
with a dynamic yet emotional vocal and full
production to enhance the lyrics that sent
chills up my spine....This 3rd cd release
from Tracy Jane Comer is all about her talent
and songwriting artistry - the ability to
tell a story and sing it with conviction
and love. Quietly

is due to make some very loud noise once
these songs are heard and be "Internationally

3/20/2006:Newspaper
coverage of the Madison Area Music Awards
in the Wisconsin State Journal
had this to say: "The live performances
of the evening went a long way to show that
Madison does indeed deserve an awards show....The
organizers' idea to mix groups of past MAMA
winners together for the live performances
was a gamble that paid off well with stand-out
performances by Tracy Jane Comer backed
up by Subvocal..."
3/20/2006: The Isthmus
posted a play-by-play
narrative
of the MAMAs event and included this picture
of Tracy performing with Subvocal: (click

on the big screen!)
From
the article: "With the clock at 8:40 pm, Subvocal and Tracy Jane Comer take to the
stage for the second performance of the night. The first song is low-key
but intense, with the two female vocalists filling the theater. The
second song, featuring a pair of cellists, is a torchy number with
dueling male and female vocals. They end ten minutes later to a big
round of applause."

There is certainly a musically mature product.
She has absorbed influences from across
the musical spectrum - folk, country, pop,

Tracy’s lyric writing is very clever - she

Rating: 90 out of 100 "...A
multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter,
Tracy Jane is a long way from the manufactured
unit-shifters we are all so sick of - a
serious and talented performer, she has
put this together with the help of producer
Randy Green, a couple of decent session
musicians, and almost nobody else. On this
basis alone, this album is an impressive
achievement. But it does more than just
take an independent stand against the major
labels...A well-judged blend of ballads,
instrumentals and harder-edged moments,

'Eleanor Rigby' and orginials 'Take Me To The Mountain' and
'Quietly There'; and a kind of folky jazz that shines through in 'My
